I'm not going to clog the thread with Chris talking about this.

    My thoughts on the film:

This film was to Batman as Spaceballs was to Star Wars. This has to be the best Batman spoof I have seen (unless you can link me a better one).

They're really advertising this movie. The local department store has a prop for it right at the enterance. And one of those motion-activated talking thingies in the back.

Back in the day, there was no LEGO® Batman or LEGO® Star Wars or LEGO® Harry Potter. There was just the generic "space" set, the "castle" set, the "city" set, and so on. Kids had to use their imaginations.

Kids nowadays with their iPhones and the walking on my lawn...

I'm waiting to see it with my son. I'm kinda pleased that there's finally a Batman movie out in theaters that I can see with him. Back in high school, I read Frank Miller's The Dark Knight Returns. This was a few years after Batman & Robin with no Batman Begins on the horizon. I wished that they would make a dark Batman movie like that. When we finally got it last year, I thought it dark to the point of being unpleasant. Was I an edge lord in high school? Oh, Christ....

You see why I can't really get into this sort of thing anymore. The imagination is certainly gone, they might as well be blocky model kits. :crash:

Everyone was an edgelord to some degree in high school.

Personally, I mostly like Dark Knight Returns except for a few details. The voice acting was weird, sometimes it felt like the guy playing Batman was about to fall asleep since he delivered his lines with very little emotion and what sounds like a yawn at certain parts. It kind of felt like they had the voice actors record their lines in single long sessions then never brought them back for retakes and used the audio they had. So, you have scenes where Batman does emote and act like what you expect Batman to act like (the beginning of the session) and some parts where he just sounds really tired and he wants to go home (the end of the session).

Things like the death of Toymaker (or whatever his name was) being completely forgotten about also kind of rubbed me the wrong way. I liked the movie, but I couldn't watch it without nitpicking, which basically means that it never really immersed me.

I loved this movie. Saw it with my girlfriend over the weekend. She didn't really want to see it, but she agreed to go because I got dragged to Bridget Jones' Baby last year (I actually quite liked that one though). She ended up loving it too - and she's never even seen The LEGO Movie.

Does Batman learn the value of teamwork at the end?

For my money, nothing will ever be able to touch this:

YES. This film was amazing. Also holy fuck is it a gateway drug, because right after seeing it, I went out and bought two lego sets from the movie

Which sets did you get? I have my eye on the cat woman and the bat mobile sets.

The batmobile does look cool, I will probably be getting that.

I want to get this one too, I'm just not sure if it's worth the money. It's not the most expensive set but it is one of the more expensive ones

I would get some of the LEGO, but sets from these movies tend to be more expensive than usual. Also, they made like a hundred sets for this, so if you're going to collect them all, your bank account will be hurting.

Nice! I really like the car angle that the sets have, they look pretty cool on display.

I might get some of the sets, but I really don't want to pay full price for the, I'm going to stick them on my amazon Wishlist and wait for them to be at least 33% off.

Penguin's car isn't too expensive. (for Lego, anyway) It's $30. Joker's car on the other hand is $45..Which is odd since his car and penguins are similar in size. Although his set has more pieces, and I believe I read lego prices their sets based on how many pieces are in each set

You are right that the licensed themes(Batman/Star Wars etc) are more expensive then normal sets, but if you wait, you will be able to get them at a pretty fair price. When Rogue One came out, I really wanted the Lego U-wing, but I wasn't going to spend $80 on it, I wait a few months and managed to get it for $60, which is a price I was happy to pay.

Usually the rule is $10 per 100 pieces, so Penguins car is a spot on price, Jokers car at 433 pieces is probably $5 too much, especially when you consider how common the BatGirl and Joker figures are.

I saw it last night and loved it! I seriously can't remember the last time I laughed that much during a movie.

I really enjoyed this movie. Any animated movie that has references/jokes that older people can appreciate is always great in my book.

One of the things that has been frustrating me a lot in mainstream Hollywood films lately is the need to shove in a hetero relationship because you gotta (which was my only real complaint about Arrival because that really didn't happen in the original short story). This movie managed to completely avoid that AND poke fun at the trope and I loved that, it was really refreshing. Plus Harley Quinn wasn't in any sort of gross relationship with Joker so that was A+

For a anyone in the UK, Sainsburys has the Lego Batman Movie collectable minifigures on clearance. They are only £2 per bag now.
