Final Fantasy XV

Not since Final Fantasy X has a Final Fantasy game immersed me as much as FFXV.

Anyway ... the story starts after Zayn has left the band, leaving Niall, Harry, Louis and Liam ...

Kidding aside, you’re Prince Noctis and you and your buddies are on a bro’d trip to get you married, in order to unite the kingdoms of the world of Eos. Long story short - shit gets real and you and the boys need to kick some ass to save the world.

I’m 34 hours in and I’m only in chapter 3 of like 14, but it’s been so long since a game’s really made me this excited to game again.

I don’t know what the fuck that thing is, but I’ll be damned if it’s not pretty. EDIT: It’s a Catoblepas.

The locations are inspired by real-world places, such as the American Southwest (and much to my chagrin, there are Texas accents ...) and even Jamaica Cuba:

There is Caribbean Cuban-esque music playing while you roam around this particular city.

One of the guys, Prompto, is a photographer and likes taking cheesy photos.

Note: Prompto is also the only one who’s into said cheesy photos.

And look ri-goddamn-diculous doing so.

In the beginning of the game, your car breaks down and you have to get it fixed by the lady-mechanic, Cindy. It is very expensive.

Presumably because she needs to pay for that boob job.

Ignis gives you fist bumps when you pull off sick moves.

He has a pretty snazzy leopard print shirt too.

He takes no shit.

And is also bae. (Srsly, Ignis is bae and I will fite u irl if you say otherwise.)

All in all, I am absolutely loving this game. The guys constantly talk shit to each other, which is hilarious and Prompto spits out FF memes.

The best thing is, there’s no ridiculous lens fla--oh wait.

EDIT 2: Playtime at 47 hours ... still haven’t started Quest 2 of Chapter 3 yet ...

 

I rate 8/10 on the bishonen scale. Too bad I don't have a PS4 or XB1.

 

They claim the game is around 40 hours or so to beat the main story. There are 14 chapters, with several main quests apiece.

I am now in hour 39 and still in Chapter 3.

Oh, and I also got the Season Pass, so ... by my calculations, *does math* I’ll have beaten this game .... *does more math* ... never.

 

A good game is fun for than 10 hours.
A great game is fun forever.

 

I surprisingly liked the combat, which was the one thing I was worried about. The overall story was kinda garbage, although the main characters were great.

 

Game is soooo fun so far. Got my girlfriend a PS4 for her birthday and XV and we've been playing it non-stop.

 

The story is nonsensical imo. XIII seems downright coherent in comparison, I beat the game and still have no clue what happened.

After you leave for Altissia the game really goes downhill, although the last chapter is pretty legit.

 

Unfortunately you need to watch the Kingsglaive movie in order to fully comprehend the plot, a low blow in my opinion.

 

I've played a handful of FF games and never really cared for the series as a whole but this one is super fun and adorable.

I actually watched it while the day one patch was downloading and it still didn't make any goddamn sense lol. Great game nonetheless.

I think they added a New Game+ so maybe I'll play through it again later.

Has anyone beat the adomantoise yet? It's a hell of a fight.

 

Update:

I am now 52 hours in, still haven’t done the second quest of Chapter 3 and am currently up to my eyeballs in ChocoMog Festival goodness.

Also, Justice Monsters Five is an iOS/Android game now ... so yeah.

 

I've heard good things but have no PS4.

PS - Can we make this a FF general?

 

59 hours in, the boys are all level 58 and I’ve finally done Quest 2 of Chapter 3.

 

I'm at about the same point you are. What's taking me so long is that I'm a dumb shit and I keep fighting the Magitek goons when they land.

But I love it so far. The gameplay is great, and the camping system makes it feel like a tabletop RPG at times (which is awesome). Storywise, it shows that you can have a great FF with protagnists who are having some fun and not being total edgelords constantly.

 

How much content does the Season Pass add? I know they are adding (back)story DLC so that's pretty cool.

 

I forgot to mention ....

After 110 hours, I have finally beaten the main story of FFXV. I still have the Adamantoise to do, but I, so far, have completed the Gladio DLC and am (begrudgingly) chugging through the Prompto DLC. (I dislike Prompto with the fire of a thousand supernovas, so it’s long and I hate it.)

To answer your question - the Gladio DLC was about an hour, hour and a half for the storyline, but there are also time trials. I played on XBone so the graphics were a bit glitchy - missing floors and backgrounds and stuff, but Gladio was fun as hell. Gladio was very linear, so there really wasn’t any straying from the path.
Prompto is taking a lot longer because there’s more to it and there’s open world integration and side quests. There’s also a driving part where that little blond asshole is roaming around on a snowmobile, which apparently you can upgrade by doing the side quests. I have no idea how long Prompto’s DLC will be, but there’s a bunch of stuff in it, so I’m guessing a few hours.

 

Ugh, yes. I still haven’t finished it because I hate it. I should finish it, though. Ignis comes out in December.
