I used to really love the Flintstones when I was a kid. The Flintstones is a lot like the Simpsons, it was at its best when it was dealing with normal family issues.

I like the notion of building a "modern" society with Stone Age tech. And that dinosaurs are somehow still around. And of course, all the rock-related names and puns.

Reminder that this is actually a thing. Surprisingly I read that it's also good too.

You want your stone-age paraphernalia, I got your stone-age paraphernalia right here!

Another bonus, some goofy edu-tainment film that seems to wanna stick Fred and Wilma in a completely different setting outside the Bedrock canon and shoehorn in the energy crisis for good measure!

A better copy can be found here.

I feel like a good chunk of the popular cartoons at the time made at least one "Energy crisis cartoon" each.

I'm sure, if it wasn't energy, it was the environment, health or even drugs!

I'm impressed they could keep Fred and Barney on a cereal box for almost 50 consecutive years! Some things never die!

I wonder how different The Flintstones would be if it was produced today?

Now that's an interesting question. I really don't know. The Flintstones might as well be a time capsule of where we were during the height of the Cold War, a view of suburban Americana as it stood, and a Middle Class that could actually make it happen. Today it would probably be about life in the south-central end of town, trying to prevent your job from being outsourced to a foreign outfit and learning to accept being upper-lower class while trying to act like you're above that, but fail miserably every time!

Considering that Seth MacFarlane wants to make his own version of The Flintstones (IIRC, he made a pilot, but it's still up in the air if the series will ever see the light of day), it'll be full of pop culture cutaway jokes every 2 minutes...

    Don't remind me!

I still loved what we had back about 15 years ago with this...

    It was perfection!

It depends a lot of which director would pick it, it could be just a generic punfest, or some deep travel between day-to-day morals.
