I also remember being upbraided by a teacher and threatened with detention for "answering back" when he'd arranged for this woman from an anti abortion group to talk to us, who said that you can't get pregnant from rape and I told her to stop talking bollox. Notably, this was back in 2000, so long before Paul Ryan said that a woman's body could shut all that down.

I remember way back in the 90's reading a pamphlet at a church that said that menstration stops when a woman is frightened, and thus you can't get pregnant from rape. I believed it until I was 23 and had my whole 180 of everything I believed, then thought I must have misread it or misremembered it because no one could be that retarded. Then Paul Ryan opened his big, dumb mouth.

Ah well. Have some Irish Catholic sex education presented by a woman who reminds me far too much of Mrs Doyle from Father Ted:

Holy shit I'm glad I jumped ship from my old Catholic school before "sex ed" started.

This is facinating in a mind-melting kind of way, thank you for sharing this.

I went to a catholic school. I remember Sex Ed being pretty much non-existent. We had half a year in junior high, then nothing. The closest thing I had to Sex Ed after the junior high thing was when two girls came to lecture us about condoms and safe sex, where we placed condoms on wooden dicks.

Gather 'round refukiwis, I'd like to tell a tale that is quasi related to this thread. But first, some context:

So I got this book in grade 7, in the year of our lord 1999-2000. In my school, elementary was K-7, high school was 8-12. Now, at this time, Canada had a channel (still does actually. It's the channel that gave us Trailer Park Boys) called Showcase. Showcase aired a lot of original, Canadian content. Independant films, risqué art films, LGBT stuff. And porn. Looooooooooots of soft core porn. And movies that just barely qualified as movies with lots of sex scenes in them. And not necessarily late at night. Descent's family had also moved her bedroom to the basement while the rest of the family was upstairs, so basically I was the only one who used the tv downstairs. Point is, I watched a lot of Showcase in grade 7.

Well, one channel up from Showcase was Bravo, which at the time was not as risqué as Showcase, but aired similar programs. One of which was a program called The Sex Files. Now at some point, my school brought in a teacher to make an attempt to try and teach us some stuff from the book I posted. Instead we sat in a circle, NOT using our textbooks, talking about...fuck, I don't remember. I think it was 20 minutes of this dumpy female teacher trying to say something. At one point she lamented how much smut was on TV and brought up how she couldn't believe that their was a program called The Sex Files.

So naturally I watched it. It was an educational show. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Sex_Files And it was a nice alternative to the not education I was getting. To this day I still laugh at this woman getting offended at a program she didn't watch and didn't know what it was about.

Alas, nowadays the golden age of Canada's loose standards for content are no more. Showcase is a neutered shell of it's former self (I noticed it starting to happen as Trailer Park Boys became more popular). To give an example, this past Christmas they aired the Arnold Schwarzenegger classic Jingle All The Way. At 10pm at night. On a weekday. With the words "hell" and "damn" edited out.

  7. 1. I always wondered why the old 2001-era Showcase logo was exclusively pornographic scenes.
    2. Lost Girl has a shitton of soft core porn so I guess they decided to go back to their roots on that one.

Oh god I know exactly what you're talking about D: it was so awkward watching trailer park boys with my family when that logo with 8 different sexy scenes played.

in my hs sex ed class, usually what would happen was our insane whack job health teacher would suddenly go on a tirade about how pets are better protected than women, because pets get to lodge in an animal control facility for 3 days before being paralyzed and having their insides poisoned, whereas for every 90000 pet shelters there was 1 woman's shelter, and a battered woman who chose a bad boy would be given a shot to paralyze her and another to poison her insides and....

...wait, i think i'm remembering this a bit wrong.

oh yeah and there was something about bananas.

Good thing I'm a protestant who wouldn't even get started on Catholicism. And isn't the actual Christian word for sexual purity something else?
