You have to admire the commitment on CBFD though.

CBFD Is a good game. Im just tired of hearing about the humor rather than the gameplay itself

If I had a penny for everytime I saw a "Navi being annoying repeating 'hey listen'" parody picture/comic/animation...

I, uhhhh... would be able to buy Valve and have Half-Life 3 made! (uhh, funny enough?)

its not a youtube list thing, but its still annoying and related to video games and Youtube- the whole mentality people get when a famous Youtuber (see Mark, Pewd, or Jack..they're the main ones it seems), play a game and react, then someone else plays (see Mark and Jack, and any other Youtuber) play the same game and the comments go " ugh, another (Pewdiepie, Markiplier, Jacksepticeye) Wannabe! They already played this game and you're copying!..". Just that mentality of "someone famous played it, you can't"

"Reviewer dibs", I remember some TGWTG guys would often refer to this.

But sometimes, you can tell a Let's Player tries too hard, with mugging the camera doing exaggerate expressions and yelling, doing lots of jump-cuts, and making Minecraft + FNAF videos. And occasionally "unpacking" videos.

But hey, if it works... Irate Gamer learned.

Most WoW videos. Anything attempting to predict lore up to the next expansion (The truth is the story department is rudderless). Also WoW Classic prep videos when it's still a long way off and realistically people will quit after a few months anyway because us 30 year old boomers don't have the time for 2004 gameplay and zoomers don't have the attention span.

Fuck it, I'm reviving this thread just to talk about these trends that I'm sick to death of hearing of (and not just on YouTube).

    1. "Top ten most OVERRATED games", which ironically has helped made the word "overrated" overrated in itself. (Bonus fail points if the list includes Ocarina of Time, FF7, or Halo)

    2. Bashing or making fun of "black sheep" entries in game series (examples: Mario Sunshine, DK 64, Metroid Other M, Star Fox Adventures, and Banjo Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts), generally beating a dead horse (especially because they use the same fucking jokes over and over again (ex: "THE BABY.", DK Rap, Stair Fax Temperatures, N&B opening with Fat Banjo))

    3. The Tidus laugh scene from FF10 being used as an example of "bad voice acting", conveniently ignoring the fact that it was supposed to be awkward in the first place.

    4. Bashing Sonic the Hedgehog. We get it, his games are not that good. Now stop beating this dead horse.

Since this post was revived I’m going to reply to a year and a half old comment.
Conker’s kinda gets a pass on “edgy” games because it was a major release for the N64 by rare, and it was one of the firsts to be a satire game.
I love Conker because of how it plays, but it plays like every other late 90s early 2000s Rare game, as it plays great, but I’d expect it too. It was the adult humor that made it stand out.
I was more of a fan of the cheekiness than the “adult humor” Yeah, the poop monster, recreation of Saving Private Ryan, and the final boss are great, but I loved the “context sensitive button”, the explaination of extra lives and the health bar, the “game crash” at the end, and the “didn’t you see the opening cutscene” bits. In my eyes, clever always beats violence and poop jokes.

Mortal Kombat was violent for its time, but by 1996 it was outdone by Resident Evil, Doom, and several other games in the violence department. If we're only talking fighting games, I personally think Thrill Kill outdid MK on the blood, gore, and violence.

The classic MK games were very much a "lightning in a bottle" sort of phenomenon when it came to video game violence and gore, mainly due to the time it came out in and the Senate hearings that surrounded four games that I like to call the "Class of '92" (Mortal Kombat, Night Trap, Lethal Enforcers, Wolfenstein 3D)

Of all the games in the Class of '92. MK had the most mainstream popularity both in the 90's and today. Night Trap is an awful game that would've been completely forgotten had it not been for the controversy. Lethal Enforcers was a good game, but it was quickly outdone by better light gun games like Time Crisis, Virtua Cop, and House of the Dead and the light gun genre is essentially a dead one these days, and Wolfenstein 3D's biggest legacy is its status as the first true FPS and how it directly led to the more important Doom.

Even then, I think Midway outdid their own flagship franchise on the gore and violence factor with CarnEvil. Twenty-one years later, it still holds up as a classic arcade shooter and a lot of the gore and imagery is still disturbing even by today's standards (especially given its black comedy context), most notably the kitchen area in the Haunted House and the entirety of the Freak Show stage (especially the second half of it)

I'd love to see a remake of CarnEvil for the modern consoles, but I'd do it as a survival horror with gameplay similar to the Resident Evil 2 remake, serving as a dark parody of the modern horror video game (sort of like Saints Row was a parody of GTA)

I'd still take an "edgy" game over a boring pretentious walking simulator.

I find neckbeards to be as unbearable as the next guy, but they have a point on that one.

You are right in that "Edgy" is not automatically good, but it's not automatically bad either. The soybeards, dangerhairs, and SJW's have forgotten that second part and automatically dismiss anything they view as "edgy"

I know this shit is a year late but fuck it. With OVERRATED games, that probably would of been less overused if they just focused on something for a respective decade like instead of just throwing the three you mentioned on a list, they could of just focused on what they think was overrated within a console or a year and stick with it as to why they think the games overrated. With bad voice acting, they could of done better examples like the first Resident Evil or the English dub of STALKER since one was reading off a script with some wonky translation and the other are pretty much Ukrainians speaking English.

The games that make me think for that in being neither good or bad was Hatred. I can admit that game was mediocre and had problems but outside people going on about the violence (which to this day I can still find funny if those people also played games like Postal and GTA and had no problems shooting people in "No Russian." Even with context like "social commentary" they could use, I still feel that can be some sort of excuse) and the edgy sounding Nathan Explosion knockoff being a brief meme, it was pretty much just a game that was edgy just for being what was essentially a Postal 1 clone minus the fucked up loading screens and replacing them with a guy doing internal monologue about his GENOCIDE CRUSADE. Had the developers fixed some of the games shortcomings like technical issues and the like, it would of been a better game.

EarthBound as "Nintendo's most obscure title".

Probably because they don't work on their older IPs such as Banjo, Jet Force Gemini, and Viva Piñata anymore.
Sea of Thieves is fantastic indeed, though.

Especially since there are entire groups of much more forgettable games, like pre-donkey kong arcade games that weren't very successful, one of their easily missable digital only indie-sized titles for the Wii/Dsi/Wii U/3DS/Switch, or just simply a Japan-only title that was either too bad or bland for NoA to ever bother localizing(Or maybe because they were exclusive to a Japan-only attachment like the Famicom Disc System, the Sattelaview, 64DD, ect)

You mean like Famicom Detective Club.
(I brought this one up specifically because Nintendo fanboys that whine about NOA not releasing Mother 3 in the west (as if NOA was somehow the only hurdle for that game) ended up whining when a Switch remake of Famicom Detective Club was getting a US release because it wasn't what they personally wanted, because double standards.)
Also, Excite Truck was a great game that people have forgotten about, yet it's never brought up because Youtubers would rather talk about a game like Earthbound for the sake of more clicks.

YT can be far less annoying when vids and channels one finds annoying are blocked.

It truly is. Especially when Youtube thinks you must be interested in some shit like crypto when all you wanted was videos that take a shit on it.
