FB 5/31 - Plan to put Sonichu comics on Patreon

I love that he's now charging for the Sonichu pages HE was paid a thousand dollars to make a year and a half ago. Granted he's long since spent that money and has probably forgotten all about it, but still.

You watch, someone will probably just pledge the minimum amount to get the pages then post them all online for everyone to view anyway.

 

Monetizing Sonichu isn't a terrible idea. ofc, they're going to be pirated from day one.

 

Taking bets on fecal matter, high pitched autistic tantrums and "stress related exhaustion" grinding the project to a halt.

 

As long as the finished product is public, nobody will pay, nobody cares about previews that much.

 

This is what happens with literally every Patreon that offers some kind of "exclusive" content to higher pledge tiers. Of course, it seems pretty evident that Chris is not aware that he's trying to play a game that dozens of people before him have lost.

 

Pretty much echoing previous sentiments on this thread- I suspect Chris will get his usual weens to hover around, then one of them will be posting the artwork elsewhere, negating the need for further donors.

What has got me curious though is what Chris is going to be charging for autographed books. Not that I'd be buying one, mind, but more interested about what some of deluded price Chris is planning to put on them.

 

Patreons work if you prove you are good at putting out quality content consistently. Having a strong fanbase means people WANT to see those WIPS, backgrounds, raw files etc etc.

We already know Chris' process and know his work habits so we have 0 reason to pledge to him

 

Ok some quick legal talk.
If Chris keeps doing antics like this he could get in trouble for tax evasion, which is a sentence i never thought I'd write. Chris is effectively selling Sonichu through Patreon by doing it this way, which could get him into trouble with Patreon and the IRS. Fortunately for Chris there is a 100% chance these pages will be leaked, so the feds won't care that hes selling product and passing it off as donations.

Edit: Also by Chris's use of the phrase "free sampled", he honestly still thinks Sonichu will be distributed some time in the future.

 

If the Feds didn't care when Chris was making a few thousand dollars off of commissions and medallions, they aren't going to care about what little he'll earn off Patreon. If this matches earlier efforts to sell his wares (minus his brief career as a male, then female, escort), there will be a brief initial burst of money, followed by a dwindling of dollars as he fails to meet his commitments. Chris has been selling his crap on and off for years and the tugboat is still going strong.

 

If chris were have sold "the classic" for tbe asking price then the tugboat would have been yanked. If the IRS thinks he could sell more crap for $1,500 then they would take a loom at his finances more closely. Right now he is just nickel and dimeing his way through legos.

I just went and looked at his Patreon. Amazingly enough he's still getting $28 a month from it. That's pretty amazing considering he's has done nothing but set up the account.

 

Fuck, I should set up a patreon. I want to get 28$ a month for nothing!

 

After making his announcement, Chris lost a patron and $9 of pledges.

Too bad Patreon wasn't around in 2010. Cole might have raked in more than $100 after getting his fifteen minutes of fame for giving Toy Story 3 a bad review.

 

I think we're looking at a bleak future for Sonichu.
So for now, we (the general non-paying public) won't get to see Sonichu until the entire issue is finished. This is fine for most people.
As if the time of this writing access to Chris's "Patron-only" content is a rather high 50$ a month. That's a lot of money for your average shlub to pay just to get some informative ratings on kiwifarms.net. Not to mention anyone who posted this content will be ridiculed by kiwis and EDiots for giving Chris 50$ a month. So nobody is going to do it with the intention of sharing it with us poor people.
So Chris probably won't get the money he thinks he'll get. So instead of lowering the amount to get content access, he's going to make finished Sonichu Patron-only. 50$ a month (the price of Netflix, Hulu plus, HBO Go, and Amazon Prime combined) for fucking Sonichu.
Chris is going to hold Sonichu hostage and come to the realization that nobody cares that much about Sonichu.
