As the title suggest, what obscure games have you played? These can range from some games released only in a country like Russia or Japan to titles that are rather niche in whatever region of the world you live in.

To start off the thread, one niche title I played (within the US at least) was Gothic 2, a German RPG that was made around 2004. I played it around 2009 when it was being sold with Gothic 1 and 3. It also had an add-on called Night of the Raven which makes things harder than Dark Souls, even if you had the best armor on while going against a bunch of orcs.

Yes. This game. Everyone shittalks it, but it's legit one of the better PS1 games I've played.

For me I guess it'd be Dark Savior on Saturn. I've heard very few people actually talk about it, and when I mention it nobody seems to know what it is, let alone care.

I guess Shiren counts as well since it wasn't that big until the Vita release (and even then that wasn't so big). Most of my friends around that time were Pokemon nerds and were majorly into the Mystery Dungeon games. When I told them other games like those existed, they scoffed and shrugged me off saying, "If I want more I'll just replay these. I bet they're not even that good." I'm so glad I lost contact with them.

Heavy Metal F.A.K.K.^2 and American McGees Alice, both of which used the same engine.
F.A.K.K.^2 had this neat system where you can put a different gun or sword in each hand and was the first and last example I've seen of the system used in such a way. Was supposed to have a sequel but that never happened.
I think Alice got revived when they made the second one but there was also supposed to be an OZ as well.
I had all of the old Descent games, I played them a lot with a with a joystick.
I had a lot of old PC games that most people I talk to these days don't really know.
There's probably more, I've got lots of old CD's in storage I've forgotten about.

I had Trigger Man for the PS2. Never played it, thought I'm glad I never did.

It looked like a bargain bin game to me. Seeing a review of it on YouTube would later confirm my thoughts on it.

The first two Gothic games were great, although the third kind of sucked.

I don't know how obscure Persona 4 is but it's rare for me to play weeb games.

the adventures of cookie and cream was a game i played a lot with a friend of mine when i was like 11 that no one seems to care about anymore

it's a coop puzzle platformer thing where you control two bunnies along an obstacle course. it starts out simple, but gets really, really, really fucking hard and complex later on. it's also pretty fucking weird, and at times resembles something of an acid trip burned into a ps2 disk. so many evenings were wasted trying to complete the fucking thing, and i don't even remember if i ever did.

did i mention this was made by from software? because this was made by from software.

Persona isn't really obscure. Still, one could name one of the SMT spin-offs that didn't get much light of day such as SMT: If (basically a precursor to Persona).

Third Gothic game did get better with fan patches though its expansion was pure crap. Arcania was also less of a Gothic game outside of using characters from Gothic.

Did anyone play Colony Wars on the PS1? I hardly ever see it mentioned or talked about, but it is one of the greatest space combat simulators ever. It has a sequel that is pretty fun too, and a third sequel that is better best forgotten.

It got better? That game was so buggy it was basically unplayable. If they fixed it I might give it another shot.

Barely obscure, every hipster ever has played if not heard of it.

Me on the other hand? I have too many obscure titles I love to list.

Star Wars Bounty Hunter is a game I don't hear much about. You play as Jango Fett between Episodes I and II as he travels planets to tear down this drug cartel while hunting down any bounties along the way.

The game was a technical mess, but it's still pretty fun. If anything, it's a great game to laugh at with moments like enemies and sometimes even bosses getting stuck in an obstacle, Jango falling into a perpetual state of tripping, and just the general cheesiness of the game's world and plot make for a really fun time. It was re-released on PSN and it's just as much of hilarious glitchy adventure as I remembered.

Casino Kid on NES. I didn't like it, partly because I didn't know any of the games' rules.

I loved all the weird Artdink games for the PS1.

Aquanaut's Holiday was a hypnotic scuba diving simulator.
Tail of the Sun was a caveman tribe simulator. The only thing I can compare it to is the Tribal stage in Spore.
Carnage Heart was a giant robot strategy game where you had to write code for your robots' AI, like if your sensors detect an enemy within 400 meters launch a missile at it.

Speaking of Star Wars, Star Wars Demolition for PS1 was a fun little vehicular combat game, produced by the same folks who did Vigilante 8 so it plays pretty much the same. It was released a little while after The Phantom Menace was in theaters, so you had a Trade Federation tank and a STAP speeder bike, the latter which absolutely destroyed the others if played right.

Congo's Caper, a SNES pseudo-sequel to Joe & Mac aimed at a younger audience with more animu-styled art. The main characters are a monkey named Congo and his girlfriend who got hit on the head by falling magical rubies that turned them into fully-dressed cave people, then the girlfriend gets kidnapped by a flying bat person thing (allegedly male, but I always thought it was a witch lady).

When hurt, he shrinks back into a monkey until you get another ruby. Get three more rubies while a caveman and you go super saiyan (higher jump, glide, three hits before you revert, and your hair goes from blue to flashing pink and yellow).

The last level of the first world and the last few levels all take place inside T-Rex guts. Along the way you have to fight a vampire caveman, an inventor caveman who looks like Milhouse, a ninja caveman, and a pirate caveman.

CarnEvil was one of my favorite arcade shooters from when I was a kid. It was a fun horror comedy light gun game that was notable for its gory violence and being released on Halloween, 1998. But that's not why I feel it's worth mentioning. I figured I'd also mention its status as a cult classic and its unique cult fandom.

For a fairly obscure arcade game that never got a console release, it also has a rather bizarre cult following and fandom. There's MsUmlaut (former associate of A-Log and one of the few lolcows who can actually be confirmed as having redeemed themselves from their lolcow status) who was a huge CarnEvil sperg, and then there's the fanon.

Of all the non-monster characters, only one's name is canonically confirmed (Betty, the scared civilian girl you're not supposed to shoot) while the two player characters are never named nor shown. However, fanon often names the two characters Jacob and Lisa, even giving them appearances and default outfits (you can see a lot of these fanworks on Deviantart if you look hard enough), and their names come from a Wikipedia edit in 2007, when someone edited a bunch of fanon into the CarnEvil article, including the names Jacob and Lisa, and the small fandom for the game more or less accepted it.

It's surprising that an obscure game with such little plot or lore could attract fanon at all.

Wild Arms 3. It had a unique turn-based battle system that I don't think I ever see other games use. It also has dungeons filled with puzzles where you need to use appropriate tools to solve. It also has my favorite system of skipping random battles: If an encounter is triggered, you can choose to skip it or fight. If you skip, it consumes a point from a meter. If you're strong enough, you could skip battles for free.
