In the real world, Hiro Protagonist is a pizza delivery boy at CosaNostra, a pizzeria controlled by the mafia organization of Uncle Enzo. But in the Metaverse, he is a samurai prince. A new virus is taking down hackers all over the world, and Hiro sets out on a perilous journey to find and destroy the dark virtual villain that threatens not only the existence of that virtual universe, but Reality itself.

With the whole Metaverse hype nowadays (mostly by people who never played an online game before and don't know the difference between Second Life and Meta's Horizon), Snow Crash became relevant once again and I've decided to start reading the book.

Did you read it before? In this thread, let's discuss characters, story pacing, and worldbuilding.

Hiro Protagonist is a terrible name.

Not going to lie this sounds a lot like Code Lyoko.

Now that you mentioned it... I believe the virus does share some traits with Xana.

Looking up the book out of curiosity, I expected it to be some kind of crappy self-published Amazon kindle story. Instead it's an actual novel and I'm just going wat at it.

There may be some historical inaccuracy there...

My favorite part is the hero's romantic interest in a 14-year-old girl.

Speaking of, Metaverse graphics seem to be matched or outdone by a Wii game.

It does look cringy. It's my first time reading it and I'm seriously considering dropping it for another book, but at the same time, it amuses me. It's pretty much like reading the Cwcki lol.

I still like it, and Neal did create the whole "cyberpunk" genre, especially with The Diamond Age. Maybe I need to revisit them.
It's a reference to the infovirus people can get in the Metaverse. Fries your brain.

Edit: I also don't remember YT being Hiro's "love interest," but maybe it's just been so long since I've read it.

    Just finished reading it.
I have to admit I already was expecting the book to be filled with cliché and definitely a product of its own era, but still, it wasn't even a good read. I regret picking this one up instead of a Shadowrun novel.
