Original characters vs cringe

Funny how Chris got his reputation for creating "Sonichu", the WORST DONUT STEEL EVAR!!!, when it's not only the most competent thing he's ever done, it's honestly one of the better OCs out there. There are a lot of satirists kicking themselves for not coming up with the idea first.

 

I thought that text in the middle was Brazilian Portuguese for a second for some reason.

 

This. Even when I first discovered Sonichu and CWC, I was like "Yeah this guy is a Sonicfag who makes bad Sonic OCs no doubt, but to suggest he's the worst among the Sonic community in terms of Sonic OCs? That's a far stretch."

You can argue that the lore for Sonichu doesn't make sense (I mean it's a fusion between the Sonic and Pokemon universe which is already more than enough to argue it makes zero sense), or how the drawings look like it's done by a younger kid, I do definitely agree with that, but I do have to commend him for taking the effort to handdraw the comics and it does feel unique compared with "Sonic has a long lost twin brother who has weapons #1,467". Also in terms of trying to expand the universe for the Sonichu lore, it doesn't quite feel lazy at least for the first few issues even when it involves a lot of plagiarism.

At least when compared with the other bad Sonic OCs like the one I attached below, Sonichu does feel a lot better:

 

Chris kind of did that with "Bionic" before "Sonichu" was made up: a lost basketball playing brother of Sonic.

 

I remember the days when Tokyo Mew Mew was popular. Everyone wanted to make their own Mew Mew since it was pretty easy to do. Just get an endangered animal and a unique color and boom! You are set!

 

I personally think IDW's Sonic comics have done a good job with their OCs

Probably also helps that most of them are animals seldom used in furry communities (lemurs, platypus, beetles, octopuses: the only exceptions to that in the examples I've given are the skunk and the wolf)

Never even read Penders but I'd just say right off the bat that Punchy Sonichu is leagues better than all of the echidnas.

I remember mentioning this long ago in the earliest days of the Farms when there was a bit of shitting on furry OC's not going for more seldom used animals and I'll mention it now: GIVE US THE CRAB PEOPLE SONAS!

She looks like she'd come from a Sonic fan game that might of been competently made.

 

That hair color reminds me more of gushers than tooth paste. It feels as though their hair tries to taste like berries.

Honestly don't see how it's any worse than 90% of the other characters in this series ever since "Intelligent" Systems decided that pandering to weeb scum is the best thing to do when they entered 3DS game development. Seriously, they were too busy thinking about how to maximize filthy fucking weeb money to steal from that they've couldn't even be assed to remember to model feet for their ugly waifu-bait trash.
(Chrom and Lucina have excellent designs, TBH. They just happened to be the exception instead of the rule.)

 

I think maybe its because as I push towards 40 and my ability to give a single fuck continues to diminish, like write whatever makes you happy. If making a bunch of lovehogs lovehogging each other makes you happy, I mean, knock yourself out. Either way, I'll be in my rocker eating werthers.

Personally it depends on the Fandom.

In the furry Fandom it just refers to characters owned by a specific content creator.

In most it refers to a cringe fanfiction character who is rarely tolerable.

I myself have written fanficiton some of it sincere some of it satirical. I won't link any of it as I am at least pretending to protect my identity...

Personally I think a sincere fanfic should limit itself exclusively to pre existing characters within the original license to avoid such things, unless a character doesn't exist for the role you have in mind.

Like say if you made up your own villain for a Scooby-Doo fanfic since that series by its nature does not have recurring antagonists...

But Sonic has so many games, comics, movies, and TV shows that there really isn't a need to make new characters just use on the countless hundreds Sega neglected by the way side.

I wish Sega would take that advice, consider bringing back Sally or Marine or whoever before making Jeffrey The Cougar to use for one game before dropping him into the pile...

 

I thought I said this on the thread before but I realized I started with a reply on Pender's echidna OCs and since someone made their own take, I gotta throw my own in.


Since there's the whole cringe aspect on OC, to say what cringe is I can say there's different levels of cringe and it all depends as to what the OC is. Having an OC that's named after yourself and has sex with a bunch of fictional women that are from cartoons and the OC's of others like with A-Log's crappy wank fics? Yeah that can be very cringeworthy. Is your OC for a DnD campaign where its some tiefling with a generic sad backstory and has heterochromia that denotes magic while fighting with a katana? Sure that can also be cringe but not even on a similar level to A-Log unless that OC was also being described as a sex god. Is it a furry OC in just being a pastel fox-wolf hybrid? The colors are the only cringeworthy thing unless there's more to it than just having some fursona OC going "UwU." If I find someone's OC, I'd pretty much go "meh" and move on. Might laugh or be disgusted at it depending on what it is but otherwise move on. It's been 10-12 years since I stumbled upon things like Sonic OCs and the like that range from mild to disgusting that at this point, it's all getting the same varied reactions.
